That interior is amazing and you can't fault the Avanti II for using mostly GM G-Body parts, which are nice and cheap.

That's one of the worst looking cars I've ever seen. Which explains why my mother has always wanted one. This is the same woman who fell in love at first sight with a Lebaron convertible (fake wood paneling and all). She also owned a 70's Cougar at one point.

It's nowhere near as hideous as some stuff to come out of the 90s. Same swoopy, diseased look to it.
It depends on the year of the Cougar. I'd rock one up to 76.

I urge you to take a look at some other Raymond Loewy designs if you aren't familiar with him. This one is certainly one of his most polarizing, but I quite like it.

The front looks like it could be the back. Interesting car.

I like the Avanti : )

Personally, I love the Avantis. But that love stops in 1986, once they ran out of NOS Studebaker chassis, everything after was an expensive body kit.
The best looking ones, IMO, are the gently facelifted 1984-196 models that went to the integrated bumpers, blacked out trim, and square headlights. Still identifiably a 1960s design, but tastefully modernized for the '80s.

The early Avantis that were actually made Studebaker and not some upstarts had circular lights and I think they look charming.

I personally like the orginal with the round headlights.

Me too. But not that one so much.

I'm not saying I'd turn one of those down. I just think they did an unusually nice job on the facelift, given how horribly such things usually turn out. The thing was 20 years old by '84, and it only took a few tweaks to make it look like it was brand-new.

It was a 77. Probably the worst year of the cougar. She did have a 69 Cougar Convertible prior to those which I would love to have today.

One of the moms of one of the guys on my HS sailing team had one. I love them!

An uncle of mine had 2 of the early cars with round headlights. One was stock and the other he had souped up a decent bit I guess. I only saw them once while he was still in good health and I was rather young. I do remembered that it sounded very good and I've always thought these cars were cool since then.

It appears to have air vents from a Monte Carlo, a generic G-body steering column, and generic GM seat belt anchors. I like how the kept the GM parts-binning to a minimum.

Do those fender fins obstruct the beam of the headlights much?

Majestic.

As close to exotic as you can find parts for at Sears, the Avanti sits higher on my bucket list than anything contemporary from across the pond. Time will tell.

I don't think so, I've a couple in person and don't think they would.
I've never driven one, let alone at night, so I wouldn't know.

I want one!
